Narcissus - face and feet!

Before stuffing the feet, I glue a piece of foam inside each sole to give a firmer base to stand on.
I used yellow T-shirt fabric to make his face. Here you can see the beginning of the face painting.
This is the back of the face. I have used small pieces of stuffing to shape the nose and cheeks. Then the whole of the face is backed with lightweight iron-on vilene.
Here is the completed face with golden embroidered eyebrows and eyelashes.
And the whole body waiting to be stuffed.

Narcissus - part 1

I'm making two dolls based on characters from Greek myths, Persephone and Narcissus. The following pictures show some of the work done to produce Narcissus. He is GREEN !

1. Stitching the centre seam on the front legs.
2. Joining the front legs to the front body piece.
3. The back of the body with centre seam left open for stuffing and the back of the legs with darts for shaping.

4. Stitching the shoulder seams.
5. Joining the back and front to complete the body.

New dolls coming soon

I'm working on four dolls at the moment. All quite complicated so taking a bit longer than usual. I'm also having computer problems, making updating the blog a bit of a chore.

MERLIN

Now he is completed, here is my Merlin Doll.
Merlin Cloth Doll
His scarf was made from a little piece of soft, hand-dyed fabric which I found amongst our vast collection of fabric.
His lovely, scruffy brown jacket was made from an old pair of jogging trousers. His blue shirt was made from a some left over fabric which had been used to cover a cushion made for bobbin lace making. And his woven belt was made from a brown shoelace.
Merlin's trousers were made from a brown pillow case bought in the pound shop!
His little boots are my favourite. I bought some chamios leather. It was lovely and soft and easy to work with. As it was a patchwork square it had the correct homemade look for a servant's boots. However it was bright yellow! So I painted all the pieces with fabric dye before sewing together.

Merlin - Here he is!

We love the TV series Merlin. We now have all three series on DVD and are looking forward to series 4. So here is my Merlin cloth doll. I've been watching the DVDs carefully to take note of his clothes. I plan eventually to make Arthur, Gwen and Morgana.
I still have a little work to do on his brown jacket, so more pictures soon.
